The seeds of the entire 2020 Program are in manufacturing, from the optimization techniques of Dr. Walter Shewhart to the process design methods of Dr. Dell Allen. Dr. Tingey and colleagues investigated similarities between biological regeneration and manufacturing and found important opportunities for cross-training and for collaboration.
Particularly in a networked environment, taking advantage of the products of fluidity and OPL, there are untold opportunities for manufacturing in all sectors. Given that fluidity provides a common environment for organizing and implementing logic-driven processes, many design opportunities open up that would not be possible otherwise.
Many opportunities were development by means of the Manufacturing Consortium in the 1980s that have not been fully leveraged. We wish to participate in a furthering of that activity in the targeted areas of the 2020 Program.
