As documented by Talcott Parsons, the economy is a subset of society and not the other way around. The needs and wants and commitments of the people are of primary importance. As nature is a conglomeration of processes and cycles and people are a part of nature, it is very useful to consider the processes and cycles faced by people from a societal standpoint. This includes social and religious commitments, traditions, habits, and actions necessary to achieve important personal and group goals.
